Description

SYMBOLISM

I chose to go for simplicity when it came to the flag's design. Colors of peace were chosen to reflect its goal of preventing war as well as showing its heritage as the successor of the United Nations. The 8-pointed star was adopted in 2023, and represents the world's seven continents and their governments as well as the underwater land masses and their governments. Prior to the creation of the first successful underwater city, a 7-pointed star was used to represent all seven continents. Before the establishment of the first Antarctican city of Tomek in 2005, a 6-pointed star and a different design were used. I may or may not upload these designs in the future.

HISTORY

The One World Union is a intergovernmental politico-economic organization that was established from the ashes of the Genetic Wars of the 1990s.

The idea began life as a project by the administration of the Impossible Laboratories corporation, a powerful international business focused on scientific research and the exploration of parallel universes. The project saw opposition by a few employees, the most prominent of which being Albert Langston, a founding employee and a proud American. Shortly before his retirement, had warned against the idea, saying that it was dangerous and had the probability of ending up as a communist state.

The One World Union was officially created as a successor of the United Nations, and was publicly advocated by Impossible Laboratories. Many nations attended the signing of the declaration that brought it to life, with the world's superpowers being hesitant due to worries over sovereignty. The Union went on to prevent the outbreak of war well into the 24th century, when man began to colonize space. From there, as the Earth slowly became obsolete, it was quietly forgotten.

The thing with globe representations of Earth is that you can't see all parts of it from just one side. You can only see half of it. This depiction is still a lot less accurate than the UN's, because it arbitrarily shows some countries as being larger than they really are, and other smaller than they really are. There's a reason why the UN chose the symbols it did, the point was to symbolically depict Earth as accurately and fairly as possible.
